Al-Sudani Highlights Industry as Key to Iraq’s Economic Recovery

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the critical role of industry in driving Iraq’s economic recovery and achieving sustainable development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani, speaking at the National Industry Day celebration, praised Iraqi industrialists for their innovation and resilience in overcoming challenges. He noted that the period following 2003 was marked by unchecked economic openness, which severely impacted the country’s industrial sector, leading to stagnation.

The Prime Minister highlighted recent progress by stating that Iraq’s industry is now moving towards self-sufficiency. For the first time, the government is offering sovereign guarantees to support private sector projects, demonstrating a commitment to revitalizing the industry. Al-Sudani assured that the government is ready to implement necessary measures to protect national products, including decisions aimed at restricting the import of materials that compete with domestic goods.

He concluded by reiterating the importance of the private sector as a partner in confronting economic challenges, with the Council of Ministers fully prepared to support and protect Iraq’s industrial growth.
