Istanbul: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, during his address at the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Istanbul, called for an immediate cessation of aggression towards Iran and the Gaza Strip. He emphasized the necessity of activating a joint Arab-Islamic role to manage the escalating tensions in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hussein proposed the creation of an Arab-Islamic follow-up committee to monitor developments and reduce tensions. He highlighted that targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities poses not only a threat to Tehran but also risks an environmental and health disaster that could impact all neighboring nations.

The Foreign Minister further stated that attacks on religious leaders or critical facilities could lead to widespread chaos, jeopardizing the region’s security and stability. Hussein reiterated Iraq’s firm opposition to the use of its airspace for settling regional disputes, pointing out that the closure of large portions of Iraqi airspace in recent weeks has caused substantial economic harm, affecting air traffic and commercial activities.

Concluding his speech, the Minister expressed Iraq’s eagerness, both from the government and its people, to host the next session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Baghdad.
