Damascus: A tragic incident unfolded in Syria’s capital as a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt inside the Mar Elias Church, located in the Douila area of Damascus.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the attack resulted in several casualties, with both deaths and injuries reported.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior identified the perpetrator as an affiliate of the terrorist organization ISIS. The individual reportedly entered the St. Elias Church, opened fire, and subsequently detonated an explosive vest. The Ministry conveyed that initial information indicated a number of civilians were killed and others injured. Security units quickly responded by cordoning off the area, while specialized teams commenced evidence collection and investigation into the attack’s circumstances.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed the preliminary toll, stating that the attack claimed the lives of nine civilians and left 13 others wounded. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to gather more details and ensure the safety of the area.
