Foreign Minister Emphasizes Need for Activating Iraq-Proposed Ministerial Contact Committee


Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, stressed the importance of activating the open-ended Ministerial Contact Committee, proposed by Iraq within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, with the aim of containing the crisis and opening channels for dialogue.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated that the Foreign Minister met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on the sidelines of their participation in the 51st session of the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This meeting marks their second interaction during the ongoing crisis, during which they discussed the latest security developments in the region, following the military strike conducted by the United States on Iran’s main nuclear sites.



The statement further explained that Araqchi provided a detailed presentation on the consequences of these attacks, noting that Iran is taking several steps in response. In particular, Iran plans to approach the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session at the invitation of Russia.



Hussein reiterated the necessity of activating the open-ended ministerial contact committee, proposed by Iraq within the framework of the OIC, to contain the crisis and open dialogue channels. This measure is expected to contribute to reaching peaceful solutions and preventing further escalation in the region.
