Baghdad: The Ministry of Transport began installing platforms for advanced marine systems to monitor hydrographic and climatic phenomena in territorial waters on Friday, as part of a package of executive measures for the Grand Faw Port project, one of the largest strategic projects in the Middle East.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, technical and engineering teams at Iraqi ports have begun installing platforms for an integrated system of advanced devices, which include precise sensors to measure tides, wind speed, and ocean current directions.

The operation of this system represents a first-class marine information infrastructure, allowing the collection of real-time, high-precision data that supports the accuracy of the port’s engineering designs. It directly contributes to ensuring the safety of navigation for the giant ships expected to be received in the future.

The statement further explained that the importance of this data is not limited to safety aspects only but is a pivotal element in the port’s smart operational planning. This increases the efficiency of maritime management and enhances the sustainability of operational processes.
