Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that Turkey will facilitate significant decisions during the NATO summit scheduled to be held in Ankara in July 2026. Speaking after a government meeting, Erdogan announced that Turkey would host NATO leaders in the capital, aiming to set the stage for critical resolutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Erdogan highlighted NATO’s decision to boost defense spending to 5 percent of GDP by 2035. He noted Turkey’s success in incorporating the removal of trade barriers in defense industrial products among allies into NATO’s official documents. Erdogan also shared that he has engaged in discussions with various global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on bilateral relations and pressing global issues.

Erdogan asserted that Turkey remains steadfast against any actions that threaten its national security. He credited the country’s presidential system, established seven years ago, for its effective crisis management in scenarios like epidemics, disasters, and conflicts, citing rapid decision-making and political stability as key factors.

The president also stressed Turkey’s central role in the global political landscape, urging political institutions to align with this position. Additionally, Erdogan shared insights from the Turkey Education Technology Summit, where discussions centered on artificial intelligence, educational innovation, and the dual challenges and opportunities presented by digital technologies.

Erdogan concluded by reflecting on the recent 51st Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey, where he underscored the necessity for unity and brotherhood within the Islamic world to address its current challenges.
