Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his British counterpart, David Lammy, have underscored the urgency of ending the crisis in the Gaza Strip, calling for a ceasefire and advocating for a resolution to the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution. The ministers emphasized these points during a press conference at the Turkish Foreign Ministry headquarters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan highlighted the importance of maintaining and respecting the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, identifying it as a critical strategic objective. He also expressed the ambition of converting this ceasefire into a lasting peace. Fidan noted that Turkey and Britain share many strategic goals as NATO allies and highlighted their collaboration in various sectors, including economy, defense, and technology. He pointed out that the trade volume between the two nations is nearing the $30 billion target, emphasizing the necessity to update the free trade agreement established in December 2020.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed gratitude for Turkey’s role in mediating a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine amidst challenging geopolitical contexts. He acknowledged Turkey’s efforts toward peace in the Black Sea region and emphasized the need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza while supporting a two-state solution. Lammy also mentioned discussions on Syria and emphasized the close cooperation between Turkey and Britain. He noted that since assuming his role, he has maintained regular communication with Fidan, signifying the robust partnership between the two countries.

Lammy expressed enthusiasm about the potential economic benefits of the free trade agreement between Ankara and London, which is expected to enhance the cooperative relationship. He projected that the agreement could facilitate a trade volume of 28 billion pounds sterling, fostering significant economic collaboration between businesses in Turkey and Britain.
