Al-Sudani Highlights the Impact of Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom on Historical and Ideological Change

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized that the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions significantly altered the course of history, becoming a benchmark for distinguishing truth from falsehood.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in his speech commemorating the tenth of Muharram, marking the anniversary of the Karbala epic and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib and his companions, al-Sudani highlighted the heroism and values of courage exemplified in Karbala. He noted that these values have served as a refuge for revolutionaries and reform advocates opposing injustice.

Al-Sudani elaborated that the Karbala epic symbolizes the authentic prophetic approach of Muhammad and presents a humanitarian and ideological framework aimed at correcting the deviations of authority within the state and society. He further explained that Imam Hussein rose to demand reform, to expose the propaganda of a corrupt ruler who distorted truth, and to preserve the religion of God and His Messenger.

The Prime Minister underscored that the battle of Karbala was a critical test for the nation, as the grandson of the Messenger of God stood with his family and companions, leaving no excuse for those who failed to support the truth. Al-Sudani stated, “We have taken the memory of the Karbala tragedy as a beacon to guide us in following the path of Hussein and defending the values for which he was martyred, chiefly the cause of reform and combating corruption.”

Al-Sudani further remarked that since taking on his executive duties, he has been committed to principles that respect the rights of the state and its people, aiming to protect them from conflicts that could destabilize the region. He asserted efforts to build state institutions on solid foundations and to enhance Iraq’s status on the international stage.

Despite challenges such as confusion and misinformation targeting the government’s efforts, al-Sudani affirmed their continued focus on reform, construction, reconstruction, and development. He called for Arab and Islamic unity under the banner of Hussein’s sacrifices, to confront the injustice and aggression faced by people in Gaza, Lebanon, and against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Al-Sudani concluded by honoring Iraq as the resting place of Hussein, noting the ongoing mission of brave Iraqi Husseinis to remind the world of the enduring Husseini epic.
