Amman: The Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Sunday the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the eastern border using balloons equipped with remote-guided devices. A responsible military source said that border guard forces in the Eastern Military Region, in coordination with security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department, spotted a group of balloons within the area of responsibility, where they were intercepted and shot down, along with their cargo, inside Jordanian territory.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the source added that after inspecting the site, it was found that the balloons were loaded with narcotics, and the seized items were transferred to the relevant authorities. He stressed that the Jordanian Armed Forces will continue to use all their military and technological capabilities to protect the borders and prevent drug smuggling and anything that could undermine the nation’s security and stability.
