Rio de janeiro: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed developments in Gaza with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Monday, during a meeting on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Ministers Fidan and Lavrov discussed bilateral political and economic issues, as well as cooperation in the energy sector. During the meeting, they assessed the risks posed by the escalating Israeli aggression in the region and discussed developments in Gaza, Iranian nuclear activities, the situation in Afghanistan, and other regional issues.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also met with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. It’s worth noting that the BRICS group was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China. South Africa joined in 2011, transforming it into BRICS, an international platform for consultation and cooperation.

In August 2023, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Iran joined the group as part of the expansion. Meanwhile, Brazil, which holds the current presidency, announced that Indonesia would also join in January 2025.
