Baghdad: MPs have unveiled details surrounding the dispute between Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and First Deputy Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandlawi, calling for Al-Mashhadani to issue a public apology to the Iraqi populace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, MP Alaa Al-Haidari addressed the media in a joint press conference, stating that First Deputy Speaker Mohsen Al-Mandlawi insisted that Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani formally apologize for his recurring transgressions and irresponsible statements in the press, which have included derogatory remarks about the Iraqi state and Parliament.

Al-Haidari explained that Al-Mandlawi’s demand for a public apology was reiterated during a Parliament session which did not take place as planned. He emphasized the necessity for Al-Mashhadani to publicly address the Parliament and the Iraqi citizens to offer an official apology for his statements. Failing this, Al-Haidari warned that MPs would begin gathering signatures to initiate proceedings to remove Al-Mashhadani from his position as Speaker.
