Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone calls on Friday with Qatari Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, to discuss developments in Gaza and efforts toward a ceasefire.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conversation between Fidan and his Qatari counterpart focused on supporting regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where violence has continued for months.

In a related context, Fidan also discussed with the Saudi Foreign Minister the latest developments concerning the Palestinian issue, including potential steps toward the recognition of the State of Palestine, in light of the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the ongoing situation in Syria and the efforts to restore stability in the country, the same sources reported.

It is noteworthy that 149 out of 193 UN member states currently recognize the State of Palestine, which was declared by the Palestinian leadership in exile in 1988 in the Algerian capital, Algiers.

Recently, several countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Portugal, have announced their intention to recognize Palestine. Australia has also hinted at taking a similar step soon.
