Helsinki: Finnish President Alexander Stubb has expressed his readiness to approve the recognition of the State of Palestine, contingent upon the government submitting an official proposal for such recognition. Stubb’s statement signifies a potential shift in Finland’s foreign policy stance regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Stubb commended recent decisions by countries such as France, Britain, and Canada, which have moved toward recognizing Palestine. He described these actions as pivotal steps toward “reviving the peace process.” Stubb made it clear that he would approve the recognition of Palestine if formally proposed, highlighting his concern over the current situation in the Gaza Strip.

Stubb also acknowledged the presence of varying opinions within Finland concerning the recognition of Palestine. He called for an open and honest discussion on the matter, reflecting the complexity and sensitivity surrounding this international issue.
