Karbala: The Higher Security Committee for the Arbaeen pilgrimage has called on all vehicle drivers to exercise the utmost caution during the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (PBUH), amid the influx of millions of pilgrims and increased traffic on roads leading to Karbala.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a press statement, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, spokesperson for the committee, said: “With the start of the pilgrimage season and the arrival of large numbers of pilgrims from within Iraq and abroad, the committee urges all drivers-especially on routes leading to the holy city of Karbala-to drive carefully and avoid excessive speed in order to protect the lives of pilgrims and citizens alike.”

Miri emphasized the importance of conducting technical safety checks on vehicles before departure. These include inspecting the vehicle’s durability, tire condition, brake effectiveness, and ensuring that a functional fire extinguisher is available inside the vehicle. He warned that high temperatures during this period could increase the risk of mechanical failures or fires, particularly on long-distance roads.

He further noted that traffic patrols and speed-monitoring radars have been deployed across the country, particularly on highways, and stressed that strict legal measures will be taken against violators.

The committee also urged drivers to refrain from driving if they feel fatigued or drowsy. Additionally, it emphasized the necessity for large bus operators to provide backup drivers to rotate during long trips for the sake of public safety.

Miri concluded by stating that, while traffic and security forces are working tirelessly to ensure smooth transportation and the safety of pilgrims, all drivers must strictly adhere to traffic regulations and avoid speeding and reckless driving-especially on international roads that are currently experiencing heavy congestion.
