Najaf: The General Company for Maritime Transport, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transport, announced the arrival of the first Iranian passenger ship at Shatt al-Arab, carrying hundreds of Iranian pilgrims heading to the holy city of Karbala to perform the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company’s Director General, Engineer Ahmed Jassim Al-Asadi, confirmed the company’s full readiness to receive more vessels in the coming days as part of a comprehensive plan to accommodate the increasing number of visitors and ensure the smooth flow of maritime transportation.

Al-Asadi noted that the arriving vessel, the Iranian ship “Borlian”, docked at the Shatt al-Arab Corniche berth in Basra Governorate. He praised the efforts of the river transport department and maritime agencies in facilitating the ship’s arrival and providing the necessary logistical support.

He added that this step falls within the framework of joint cooperation between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, aiming to ease the pressure on land border crossings by enabling maritime entry points during the peak of the Arbaeen pilgrimage season.
