Baghdad: South Korea has expressed its interest in contributing to Iraq’s reconstruction efforts and leveraging its extensive experience in construction and economic development. This affirmation came as South Korea’s new Ambassador to Baghdad, Lee Joon-il, met with Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum, the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, at the ministry’s headquarters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting centered on strengthening the relations between Iraq and South Korea, which are continuously evolving in political, economic, and cultural areas. Ambassador Lee emphasized South Korea’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Iraq and expressed interest from major Korean companies in working within Iraq, citing favorable legal frameworks that facilitate investment and collaboration.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Ulum, highlighted the importance of reassessing Iraq’s security situation, urging the South Korean government to remove Iraq from its list of high-risk countries, in recognition of Iraq’s improved security stability. Both parties concluded the meeting with optimism for a future that promises sustained mutual interests and stronger ties between the two nations.
