Baghdad: Iraq’s Ministry of Planning held a joint meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations team in Iraq to further discuss the draft ‘Cooperation Framework’ for Sustainable Development for the years 2025-2029. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to ensure alignment with national priorities and strengthen future collaboration with UN agencies.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Saher Abdul Kazem, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, highlighted that the meeting is one of several aimed at reviewing feedback from both sides to establish a unified vision. The goal is to reflect the priorities of the Iraqi government while enhancing cooperation with the United Nations.

Efforts are currently focused on finalizing the draft document, preparing it for official endorsement and signature. The signing will proceed based on a decision by the Council of Ministers, which authorizes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, to sign on behalf of the Iraqi government.

Abdul Kazem stated that the ‘Cooperation Framework’ document is designed as a strategic tool to organize technical and developmental cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations. This alignment is with Iraq’s National Development Plan (2024-2028) and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
