Iranshahr: Iranian authorities announced on Friday that five members of the Internal Security Forces were killed in an armed attack targeting two police patrols in the Damen area of Iranshahr city, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement, the police said that ‘gunmen opened fire on two patrol units along the road linking Khash and Iranshahr, instantly killing five officers.’ The victims were identified as Lieutenant Vahdati Nia, First Sergeant Norouzi, Sergeant Rahimi, Second Lieutenant Royaei, and First Sergeant Tuli.

The statement added that the attackers fled the scene after the operation, while security forces launched a wide-scale search to track them down and uncover their identities.

Meanwhile, the group Jaish al-Adl, designated by Tehran as a terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released through affiliated media platforms.

Local media outlets circulated video footage from the scene showing a heavy security presence in the area, amid reports of additional injuries.

Iranshahr, located 337 kilometers from the provincial capital Zahedan, has witnessed repeated attacks against Iranian security forces in recent years.
