Deir ezzor: The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Friday that the “Al-Siyasiyah” checkpoint, manned by security forces in the city of Al-Mayadin in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, was targeted in an attack carried out by two militants from the ISIS terrorist organization.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the agency stated that checkpoint personnel managed to neutralize one of the attackers before the second detonated himself, causing material damage. No official figures regarding casualties have been released so far.

Deir Ezzor’s desert region has witnessed increasing activity by ISIS cells in recent months, with the group occasionally carrying out surprise attacks on military positions and security checkpoints in the area.
