Babylon: In a well-planned intelligence ambush, the Babylon Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspect from Baghdad found with valuable antiquities in his possession in the northern part of the province.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the arrest was executed by a joint force comprising the Organized Crime Directorate in northern Babylon, the Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Department in Al-Iskandariya, and the Al-Iskandariya Police Station. The suspect was apprehended after close surveillance and the gathering of intelligence. He was lured into the old district of Al-Iskandariya, where he was caught with four antiquities, including two small statues and two ancient coins.

Major General Ali Kamil Al-Hasnawi, Commander of Babylon Police, emphasized that security forces will not tolerate any attempts to tamper with Iraq’s cultural heritage or trade in antiquities, as they represent the country’s identity and history. He highlighted that the operation’s success was due to the close cooperation and coordination between police and intelligence units.

The suspect has been referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete the legal proceedings against him.
