United nations: Turkey warned against the Kurdish SDF’s continued unilateral recruitment of new members from within the Syrian social fabric as part of a malicious agenda, which contradicts the authority of central institutions and harms the country’s unity and integrity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmet Yildiz, highlighted these concerns in a speech delivered during a UN Security Council meeting focused on the situation in Syria. He asserted that the central government and a unified national army are crucial for Syria’s stability.

Yildiz emphasized that the new phase in Syria necessitates ongoing efforts to establish peace and stability grounded in the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. He stressed the importance of strengthening the Syrian government to achieve these objectives.

The Turkish envoy warned against deviating from the primary mission of restoring stability and security in Syria. He underscored the Syrian government’s commitment to enhancing security for its people and its territory.

Yildiz highlighted the significance of implementing the March 10 agreement between the Syrian government and the Kurdish PKK/YPG, which operates under the name “SDF.” He noted that credible steps from the SDF to reduce tensions or contribute to a secure environment have not yet been observed by Turkey.

He further pointed out the presence of armed elements from other countries being exploited by the SDF for recruitment purposes. Yildiz called for increased pressure on the SDF, which he accused of seeking to extend ambiguity and exploit potential crises to its advantage, and urged for the group’s disarmament.
