Sulaymaniyah: The Kurdistan Region Security Service issued a clarification regarding the Sulaymaniyah events.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service stated in a statement that in an armed confrontation lasting over three hours, the forces seized control of the “Laleh Zar” Hotel in the Sarjnar neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah at dawn on Friday, August 22, and arrested all gunmen who confronted them.

The Service added that after the Security Investigation Court issued an arrest warrant for Lahur Janki Borhan and other wanted individuals under Article (406) of the Iraqi Penal Code, efforts were made by the forces to secure their surrender. Despite attempts to communicate via telephone and loudspeakers assuring the safety of those who surrendered, the wanted parties resisted. They declared possession of armed militias and engaged with the security forces to prevent arrests.

The operation, based on a judicial decision, aimed to implement the arrest warrant to ensure no group operates outside the law, maintaining security and stability. The Sulaymaniyah Security Forces managed to control the location and surrounding area, clearing it of outlaws and armed militias who had vowed confrontation.

As a result of the confrontations, three security force members were martyred, and 19 others were injured. The Service expressed condolences and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded. It confirmed that the situation in Sulaymaniyah is calm, with citizens resuming normal activities. The Service emphasized that Sulaymaniyah’s security is paramount and assured that no destabilizing forces will be tolerated.

The statement clarified that all accused from the “Laleh Zar” incident have been arrested lawfully and will face justice.
