Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has given his approval to the recommendations put forth by a committee tasked with reviewing the joint operation contracts for oil berths in Iraqi ports. This decision is part of a broader governmental initiative aimed at combating corruption and enhancing transparency within the sector.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office released a statement highlighting that this decision aligns with the government’s program to regulate participation, investment, and joint operation mechanisms for oil berths in Iraqi ports. The committee uncovered suspicions of corruption related to the awarding and execution of several contracts. These contracts were noted for their weak economic feasibility and the evident shortfall in the Ports Company’s share, which disproportionately benefited certain contracting companies at the detriment of the state and public interest.

The recommendations also called for referring the findings to the Federal Integrity Commission to identify those responsible. Moreover, it urged that the report’s findings be presented to the Council of Ministers. This step is intended to take necessary measures to protect state funds and ensure the public interest is safeguarded in accordance with the law.
