Baghdad: Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani discussed with Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Nicolo Fontana, the potential for signing a cooperation agreement focused on the transfer of convicts serving liberty sentences between Iraq and Italy. The dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in the judicial and legal fields to serve the mutual interests of both nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting explored the possibility of concluding an agreement that would facilitate the transfer of convicts serving custodial sentences, adhering to the laws applicable in both countries. This move is part of Iraq’s broader strategy to enhance judicial cooperation with friendly nations, which, as stated by the Minister of Justice, is expected to aid in consolidating justice, improving institutional performance, and fostering mutual understanding on shared concerns.
