Erbil: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani stressed the importance of resolving outstanding issues between Kuwait and Iraq “on the basis of understanding, good neighborliness, and common interests,” noting that this “serves the interests of both sides and security and stability in the region.” This statement was made during his reception on Sunday evening of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Mohammed Al-Zaman.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Kuwait’s assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He described resolving outstanding issues between Kuwait and Iraq on the basis of “understanding, good neighborliness, and common interests” as “important” and serving the interests of both sides and security and stability in the region.

For his part, the Kuwaiti Ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to “address issues through understanding,” expressing its desire to “expand the horizons of cooperation with Iraq in various fields.” Al-Zaman also highlighted his country’s interest in “friendship and historical relations” with the Kurdistan Region.

The statement added that the two sides also discussed employment and investment opportunities, the employment of Kuwaiti capital in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, relations between Erbil and Baghdad, and the situation in the region in general.
