Baghdad: Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Planning Affairs, Hisham Al-Alawi, engaged in discussions with Lee Joon-il, the newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Baghdad, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in economic and diplomatic fields.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Alawi acknowledged the robust relations between Iraq and South Korea, appreciating the contribution of Korean companies to infrastructure and development projects in Iraq. Ambassador Lee emphasized the importance of collaboration in key sectors such as energy, housing, and transportation. He highlighted the potential opportunities presented by initiatives like the Grand Faw Port project and the Development Road.
The dialogue between the two officials also covered plans to convene meetings of the Joint Committee in the first half of the coming year. Additionally, they discussed the activation of a 2017 memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Foreign Service Institute and the Korean Diplomatic Academy. This activation would involve training programs and workshops designed to facilitate the exchange of diplomatic expertise.
