Baghdad: Secretary-General of the Generations Gathering, MP Mohammed Saadoun Al-Sayhoud, has identified the Election Law and the Parliament's Presidency as critical factors contributing to the shortcomings of the current session of the House of Representatives.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sayhoud expressed in a press statement that the multi-constituency election law has impeded the legislative and oversight functions of the current parliament. He explained that the law confines members of parliament to limited geographic areas, akin to municipal council members focusing on local services, rather than addressing broader legislative needs from Zakho to Al-Faw.

Al-Sayhoud further commented on the political dynamics within the Parliament's Presidency, noting that the lack of consensus and prevailing political tensions have turned the parliament into a battleground for conflicts and rivalries. This environment has disrupted parliamentary work, hindering its legislative and oversight responsibilities during the ongoing session.
