Karbala: The Head of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, Mohamed Al-Hassan, has issued a strong call for concerted efforts to combat the rampant spread of corruption in Iraq. Addressing attendees at the Anti-Corruption Conference held at Al-Warith Al-Anbiyaa University in Karbala, Al-Hassan emphasized the critical nature of addressing corruption, describing it as a fundamental duty that is national, ethical, and religious.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hassan highlighted the ongoing initiatives by the UN Mission in Iraq, which include the development and implementation of clear programs and plans aimed at combating corruption. These initiatives also support and enhance the capacities of oversight bodies in verification and transparency. Al-Hassan pointed out that the effective application of these systems would contribute to establishing an independent judiciary free from corruption.

Al-Hassan expressed his concerns for Iraq, emphasizing the grave danger posed by widespread corruption in various forms, including political, financial, administrative, judicial, and moral corruption. He stressed the necessity of upholding integrity standards, ensuring judicial independence and transparency, and holding accountable those involved in corrupt practices and those who enable them.
