Amman: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has confirmed Turkey’s readiness to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza via air, pending approval from Jordan. Fidan emphasized that Turkey’s aircraft are prepared and will depart immediately once Jordan grants permission to open its airspace.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan stated in a press release that international relief organizations have highlighted the risks associated with airdropping aid, as it can lead to fatalities and may not reach the intended recipients. Nevertheless, Turkey has sought approval from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has agreed to proceed with the operation. Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent are actively engaged in efforts to aid Palestinians, in collaboration with Egypt.

Fidan acknowledged that the airdrop initiative is perceived as a symbolic gesture under international pressure by Israel. However, he stressed that any form of aid, regardless of its size, is valuable. The Turkish Armed Forces are prepared to execute the airdrop, contingent on obtaining Jordanian approval to traverse their airspace.

The Foreign Minister revealed ongoing discussions with Jordanian officials, indicating Turkey’s willingness to use any aircraft designated by Jordan. He noted the complexity of obtaining Jordan’s consent, which involves coordination with Israel. To address logistical concerns, Turkey has provided the necessary parachutes for the airdrop operation.

Fidan reiterated that although airdropping aid is viewed as a symbolic act, Turkey’s commitment to delivering even minimal aid to Gaza remains steadfast.
