President Rashid Reaffirms Iraq’s Commitment to Bolstering Energy Sector


Baghdad: President Abdul Latif Jamil Rashid on Saturday reiterated Iraq’s dedication to enhancing its national energy sector and boosting international collaboration to develop this crucial industry. The announcement was made during his meeting at Baghdad’s Peace Palace with the delegation attending the Baghdad International Energy Forum. The delegation included OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Faisal Rashid, Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Rajab Muhammad Abdul Sadiq, Egypt’s First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Ihab Ragai, and Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Ahmet Barat Cunkar, along with Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayyan Abdul Ghani.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Rashid welcomed the delegation, stressing the importance of building constructive partnerships with regional and international partners to fulfill the aspirations of the people for progress and stability. He emphasized that Iraq, with its strategic location and rich natural resources, is well-positioned to invest in available resources and support the transition to a green economy and renewable energy.



Rashid pointed out that Iraq is enjoying a period of security and stability after years of conflict and terrorism, highlighting the necessity of investing in the oil sector and creating a sovereign fund for oil and gas revenues to benefit current and future generations.



President Rashid described the forum as a promising opportunity to showcase Iraq’s leading role in the energy sector, stating that its success would contribute to shaping new energy policies and expanding cooperation with international companies. He expressed his hope for the forum’s success and that participants would achieve outcomes that further the sector and serve national interests.



The delegation members expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the President, affirming their commitment to strengthening positive relations with Iraq across multiple sectors.
