New york: The United Nations General Assembly decided to resume a high-level international conference on the two-state solution on September 22, to revive a peace process that was suspended this summer amid escalating violence in Gaza.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the decision came based on an oral proposal submitted by Saudi Arabia. The conference aims to support a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.

However, Israel and the United States announced their withdrawal from the conference. The United States confirmed its non-participation in the conference. However, the resumption of the conference is expected to allow for the attendance of a larger number of heads of state and government.

It remains unclear whether Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will be able to attend the conference in person, especially given the United States’ visa ban on Palestinian officials.
