Karbala: Deputy Commander of Joint Operations and Chairman of the Supreme Security Committee for the 2025 Parliamentary Elections, Lieutenant General Qais al-Muhammadawi, has directed efforts to ensure a safe and flexible environment for voters. The directive was issued during an expanded conference held at the Karbala Operations Command, aimed at reviewing preparations for securing the electoral process in the governorates of Karbala, Najaf, and Babylon.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the conference was attended by a diverse group of key stakeholders, including a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army for Operations, the Commander of the Land Forces, the Undersecretary of National Security, staff officers from the Joint Operations Command, and representatives from all security agencies. Commanders of the Popular Mobilization Forces, operations units of the Ministry of Interior, members of the main committee, heads of the commission’s offices in the concerned governorates, police commanders, and education directors were also present.
The statement from the Security Media Cell highlighted that Al-Muhammadawi was briefed by the commander of the Karbala Operations and the police commanders on the ongoing preparations and plans for the upcoming elections. Al-Muhammadawi commended the significant efforts made by all parties involved to ensure the success of this national event. He stressed the importance of providing a safe and appropriate environment for voters, underscoring the necessity of a flexible security plan that allows all Iraqis to reach polling stations without hindrance.
Al-Muhammadawi further emphasized the collective responsibility to convey a true image of Iraq, linking the mission to the legacy of the martyrs by fostering a secure environment for the elections. He reiterated that the security forces are impartial and that the priority is the successful conduct of the elections.
The attendees at the conference also discussed the timing for the deployment and establishment of security forces and the execution of related tasks. They addressed emerging issues in the electoral process, such as legal violations and breaches, and evaluated the measures taken to address these challenges. Additionally, the measures implemented by the media committee, particularly in awareness and education campaigns in Baghdad and other governorates, were reviewed.
