Beirut: The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, who also serves as the President of the Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly, met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut, Lebanon. The meeting, attended by several members of the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, was part of Al-Mandalawi’s official engagements during his visit to Lebanon, coinciding with his leadership of the first general meeting of the Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions during the meeting focused on the outcomes of the founding conference of the Asian-African Parliamentary Assembly, which Beirut hosted from September 8-9, 2025. The conference’s historic significance in fostering closer ties between Asia and Africa was highlighted, with an emphasis on unifying the visions and orientations of the parliaments from both continents in regional and international forums. This unity aims to address significant issues, overcome challenges, and support the security and development of member states.

The meeting also addressed prominent challenges and changes on the regional and international stages. Al-Mandalawi underscored the necessity for enhanced Arab partnership to serve the interests of the countries and meet the aspirations of their peoples. He emphasized that the unity of the Arab and Islamic ranks is crucial for protecting the region from attempts at hegemony and foreign interference. Al-Mandalawi reiterated Iraq’s unwavering support for Lebanon in facing challenges and strongly condemned ongoing Zionist violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
