Baghdad: The National Security Council condemned the recent attack carried out by Israel against the State of Qatar, reaffirming its categorical rejection of any aggression targeting a brother state that is safe, stable, and sovereign. The council also warned of the attack’s potential to further escalate conflict in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Major General Sabah Al-Naaman, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stated that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired the council’s regular meeting on Wednesday, during which the latest security developments in the country and the agenda items were reviewed, and the necessary recommendations and decisions were adopted.

He added that Al-Sudani briefed the council members on the outcomes of his recent visit to Brussels, including his participation in the North Atlantic Council meeting at NATO headquarters, where he delivered a speech and received wide recognition from member states for Iraq’s pivotal role in the region and the government’s steps to enhance security and stability.

The meeting also discussed a comprehensive proposal to develop Iraq’s air defense system, with all its requirements and details. In addition, the council reviewed the field committee’s report on the visit to Al-Faw Grand Port, approved its recommendations, and directed their implementation.

Furthermore, the council endorsed a decision for the Ministry of Industry and Minerals to donate machinery and vehicles to the Ministry of Interior to support the work of the General Traffic Directorate.
