Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has instructed the local government to remove the mayor of Al-Zawraa District from his position due to his failure to fulfill his assigned duties. This move is part of a broader initiative to enhance living and service conditions in the area.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani’s directive came during a meeting with tribal sheikhs and dignitaries from the Al-Zawraa district in east Baghdad. The gathering, which included MP Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sayhoud, the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of Baghdad, and several local officials, focused on addressing residents’ concerns about municipal services, shortages in school infrastructure, and economic challenges.
The Prime Minister has issued several key decisions in response to these issues. These include the dismissal of the district’s mayor and authorizing local authorities to exercise their powers accordingly. Additionally, Al-Sudani has mandated the completion of Al-Ma’amal Hospital by year-end and the swift referral of the district’s master plan project to a specialized company.
Further measures include finalizing contracts within 20 days to complete the Baghdad-Baqubah tourist road and advancing the district’s water project with a budget of 200 billion dinars. Temporary connections to the Al-Husseiniya water project will also be established.
The government is also prioritizing education by allocating land for the construction of new schools under the Iraq Development Fund projects. Moreover, Al-Thermostone factory land will be used to set up municipal and ministerial offices. Plans are in place to build a community sports field, fence existing playgrounds, and establish a municipal directorate to manage services effectively.
To ensure the implementation of these resolutions, a committee from the Prime Minister’s Office will oversee progress, with monthly meetings led by the Prime Minister. These sessions will include the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor, and district residents, reflecting the government’s commitment to meeting the community’s expectations.
