Baghdad: Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has reiterated the Region’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding ethnic and religious communities and preserving the culture of coexistence. A statement from the Presidency of the Region said that Barzani received today a delegation of Assyrians from the United States, headed by Sam Darmo, President of the Assyrian Foundation for Justice. The delegation included prominent Assyrian figures from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region residing in the U.S.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two sides discussed the situation of Assyrians in Iraq in general and in the Kurdistan Region in particular, and exchanged views on the role, presence, and future of Assyrians and other communities in the Region. Barzani expressed his pleasure at the delegation’s visit, describing it as important and necessary for fostering joint cooperation. He also praised the role of Assyrians and other communities, highlighting their active participation in all aspects of life in Kurdistan.
For their part, the visiting delegation commended the spirit of coexistence and acceptance among Kurdistan’s communities and thanked the Region for the support and safe haven it has provided to Assyrians and other groups since 2003.
