Baghdad: Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, the head of the Islamic Supreme Council, praised the Supreme Judicial Council’s decision to exclude candidates subject to Accountability and Justice procedures from participating in the elections.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Hamoudi issued a statement from his office acknowledging the efforts of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Judicial Panel of the Independent High Electoral Commission. These efforts have led to the exclusion of hundreds of candidates who are either subject to Accountability and Justice measures or are facing criminal charges related to dishonorable conduct or bad reputation.
While speaking at the Dialogue Forum held at Al-Intisar Hall, Hamoudi emphasized that these measures ensure the representation of honest national figures and help safeguard public interests. He noted that previous negligence had allowed Ba’athists to infiltrate state institutions, contravening the constitution.
Hamoudi also stressed the importance of establishing a clear code on reputation standards to guide the judiciary and prevent subjective interpretations. He called on the Accountability and Justice Commission to continue and expand its role in monitoring individuals who assume responsibilities, particularly in top state positions.
