Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the importance of truck drivers adhering to specified weight limits and enforcing excess load laws during the inauguration of the Baghdad-Mosul entrance, which has been rehabilitated and expanded. The event saw the participation of Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of Baghdad, and other local officials.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister, alongside members of the House of Representatives, visited the weigh station to inspect operations and ensure that truck traffic is closely monitored. Al-Sudani highlighted the need for drivers to comply with weight regulations to prevent damage to the roads and infrastructure, stating that merely spending funds on rehabilitating roads is insufficient without proper enforcement of weight limits. He underscored that developing the capital's entrances is a priority for both federal and local governments, as well as the Baghdad Municipality, and should be expedited.
The Prime Minister noted the cooperative efforts of former and current governors and the Baghdad Municipality in completing the project within the designated timeframe. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in project completion, appreciating the citizens' patience throughout the process. In addition, Al-Sudani mentioned that the government is undertaking numerous projects across various districts and sub-districts based on assessments of service needs.
Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani expressed gratitude to the Al-Sudani government for its service and reconstruction efforts. He described the project as a milestone leading to further initiatives beneficial to Baghdad and other governorates. He reiterated the government's commitment to a competency-based approach, focusing on rebuilding the modern state while honoring its historical legacy, and highlighted the Parliament's support for enhancing security, economic, and social services.
The entrance development project includes expanding the main road's width to 16 meters, improving lane capacity, and featuring 38 km lanes on each side. It also involves constructing 21 pedestrian bridges and four vehicle overpasses, all completed to the highest technical standards to accommodate increased traffic and enhance safety.
