Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed: “Regional and international challenges have placed Iraq at the heart of threats.” During his patronage of the Iraq Vision 2050 launch ceremony, Al-Sudani said: “This vision comes at a moment when the region and the world are witnessing dangerous turmoil… and it is a message to the world that Iraq has decided to rise up and restore its historical role.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani added: “Today we stand before a major national moment that embodies the state’s will to restore its position in the region and the world.” The Prime Minister pointed out: “Climate and environmental disasters have begun to undermine the foundations of water and food security, and it is imperative for countries, including Iraq, to take measures to mitigate the crisis if it occurs.”
He continued: “We hope that Iraq will be free of oil rents in the coming decades, and we hope that Iraq will become a gateway for 20 percent of Asia’s trade to Europe through the Development Road Project.” He explained: “Our goal is to reduce dependence on oil and achieve sustainable growth. We initiated the initial developments for Iraq Vision 2050 in 2023, and signed the consultancy contract between the Ministry of Planning and KBR in accordance with Iraq Vision 2050. The government, for the first time in the history of the Iraqi state, initiated the launch of the executive policy document for strategic governance.”
