Baghdad: The Ministry of Trade reassured citizens of the integrity of the procedures for updating ration card information, while reiterating its commitment to ensuring food security.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Minister of Trade Atheer Al-Ghariri stated that there are no reductions in the electronic ration card update process. He clarified that the ministry is only removing the names of fictitious individuals, travelers, and the deceased from the system.
Al-Ghariri highlighted the ministry’s progress in electronic transformation, which has led to the identification of over 3 million cases of fictitious, deceased, and traveling individuals. This process replaces the previously used paper system for recording ration card information.
The minister announced that all ration card information update services, including subtraction, transfer, and addition, will resume within the next two weeks. These services, which were on hold for two years due to updates, will be fully accessible through an electronic application, eliminating the need for citizens to visit the Ministry’s departments.
Al-Ghariri confirmed the ministry’s commitment to an integrated electronic system for registering and updating ration card information. In terms of food security, he assured that there is a strategic reserve of over six months for wheat and other food items, with all components of the food basket readily available.
