Iraq’s Foreign Minister Highlights Nation’s Role in G77 and China


New york: During a significant meeting with Annalena Baerbock, President of the United Nations General Assembly, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized the nation’s influential role within the G77 and China, underscoring its contribution to fostering international cooperation.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place at the United Nations building, where Minister Hussein congratulated Baerbock on her new role. The discussions revolved around the ongoing UN reform efforts and the need to enhance the organization’s effectiveness in addressing global challenges, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.



Minister Hussein reiterated Iraq’s vital role within the G77 and China, highlighting its support for international cooperation. Baerbock praised Iraq for its active involvement in promoting the interests of developing countries within this group.



The dialogue also included discussions on the current situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Syria. Minister Hussein emphasized the necessity of promoting calm and dialogue among parties, highlighting Iraq’s strategic location as a platform for regional dialogue.



Additionally, the meeting addressed the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Minister Hussein pointed out the significant shortages of essential resources, warning that the ongoing crisis could exacerbate extremism and conflict. He stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to those affected in the region.
