Foreign Minister Discusses Joint Committee, Cooperation in Water Management with Finnish Counterpart


New york: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met today with Finnish Foreign Minister Alina Valtonen on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and Finland, exploring ways to advance mutual interests. A significant part of their discussion highlighted the importance of convening a joint committee between the two nations and establishing a forum or council for cooperation in water management, leveraging Finland’s expertise in this critical sector.



The dialogue also included shared views on migration, with both parties commending the current level of cooperation. Additionally, regional developments were a key topic, particularly the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Minister Hussein emphasized the need for the international community to recognize the State of Palestine, stop ongoing attacks, and ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza.



Further discussions covered the situation in Syria, where Minister Hussein underscored the need for intensified international efforts and coordinated joint actions to support the political process and contribute to stability and security in the region.
