The FM Discusses With The EU’s Commissioner For Migration Ways to Enhance Joint Cooperation


New york: Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation between Iraq and the European Union on migration and security issues.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of Hussein’s participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussions focused on areas of cooperation between the two sides, with the minister highlighting Iraq’s ongoing efforts and collaboration with European countries on migration matters.



The statement added that Hussein announced Iraq’s participation in the upcoming migration conference scheduled for December 9-10 and expressed Iraq’s readiness to sign a memorandum of understanding with the European Union in this regard. He also invited the European official to attend the meeting on Al-Hol camp, to be held at the United Nations on September 26, with the participation of a large number of international officials.



For his part, Commissioner Brunner noted that the European Union is currently conducting a comprehensive review of its migration system and proposed enhancing cooperation in the field of security information exchange. Minister Hussein emphasized the importance of developing practical ideas to be discussed in upcoming meetings.
