Basra: The Director General of the General Company for Electricity Transmission in the Southern Region, Ali Zuhair Karim, discussed today, Wednesday, with representatives of the French company Total Energies the requirements for connecting Shams al-Basra Solar Power Plant project, in the presence of representatives from China Energy, the company executing the plant's works. The meeting was held at the company's headquarters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Karim emphasized the necessity of adhering to the timelines set by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel during their recent visit to the project, calling for enhanced joint coordination and the removal of obstacles to expedite completion as soon as possible.

Total Energies representatives presented the current progress and stages of the project, and both sides agreed to expand cooperation frameworks to quickly resolve issues and overcome challenges.

The meeting also addressed the requirements for connecting the plant to the southern national grid, including the construction of five double-circuit 132 kV lines to transmit approximately 1,000 MW of electricity expected after the plant becomes operational.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold periodic follow-up meetings to monitor progress and ensure the project is completed according to the scheduled timelines, with both sides affirming that the plant represents a major leap in the energy sector and supports the government's plans to strengthen the national electricity system and reduce carbon emissions.
