New york: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met with UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres on Tuesday evening and requested UN support for South Korea's vision to achieve denuclearization of North Korea through dialogue.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly after Lee presented a dialogue initiative centered on "exchange," "normalization," and "denuclearization" to end the confrontation and usher in a new era of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The office said in a statement: "President Lee emphasized that peace and security on the Korean Peninsula are directly linked to global peace and security, and requested the United Nations' support in moving beyond conflict and confrontation toward dialogue and cooperation."

Guterres praised the Lee administration's policy toward North Korea, describing it as a wise approach, and pledged to provide effective support from the United Nations and continue to strengthen cooperation with Seoul, according to the office.

The office added that during the talks, Lee expressed support for Guterres's UN reform agenda and pledged that South Korea would do its part to help the organization grow into a more effective and efficient body.

He added that South Korea, which has transformed from an aid recipient to a donor with the support of the United Nations, will play a greater role in addressing global challenges.

Guterres noted that South Korea makes important contributions through its wise and balanced voice at the United Nations, describing it as a "reliable partner" in humanitarian assistance, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, human rights, and responding to key issues such as Gaza and Ukraine.
