Turkey Confirms Hamas’s Response to Trump Plan Will Aid Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

Baghdad: The Turkish Foreign Ministry, commenting on Hamas’s response to US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, confirmed that it will contribute to establishing a ceasefire in the Strip.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated in a statement this morning: “The response announced by Hamas last night to the Trump plan allows for urgent steps to establish a ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip, and achieve lasting peace.”

The statement emphasized that Israel must immediately cease its attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and called on the parties to begin negotiations that will lead to a ceasefire and move forward with the implementation of the two-state solution supported by the international community. It affirmed that Turkey will continue to support the negotiations and make constructive contributions to them.

Hamas announced in a statement last night that it had submitted its response to the Trump plan for Gaza to mediators, announcing its agreement to the release of all Israeli prisoners, living and dead. Hamas also renewed its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats, based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support. However, it emphasized that the future of the Gaza Strip and the rights of the people would be discussed within a Palestinian framework.

Tel Aviv estimates that there are 48 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are alive, while approximately 11,100 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect. Many of them have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
