Erbil: Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani emphasized the need to amend the current election law, describing it as unfair, during a speech at the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) candidate announcement ceremony. Barzani highlighted that the lack of constitutional implementation is a significant factor in the ongoing crises in Iraq, as well as the tensions between Baghdad and the Kurdistan region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani pointed out that Iraq's avoidance of implementing Article 140 has contributed to existing issues, such as oil-related disputes, which could have been mitigated if the oil and gas law had been enacted. Barzani also remarked that the centralized system, as per the constitution, is no longer in operation in Iraq.

Barzani acknowledged that while the constitution is not without its flaws, it also holds several positive elements. He reiterated the need for constitutional adherence and reform of the election law to pave the way for fair upcoming elections.
