Iraq Condemns Israeli Knesset’s Sovereignty Move Over West Bank

Baghdad: Iraq strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of two draft laws aimed at imposing sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and illegal settlements, describing the move as "a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and a direct assault on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that "such expansionist measures undermine prospects for stability and entrench the reality of occupation and settlement, posing a threat to peace and security throughout the region."

The ministry reaffirmed Iraq's firm and consistent stance in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. It also called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and to take a firm stand against the aggressive and expansionist policies pursued by the Israeli occupation authorities.
