Baghdad: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in cooperation with the Digital Reporting Platform for Women Journalists and the Judiciary, conducted a specialized training course for women journalists on psychological and social support mechanisms, within the framework of the Multi-Donor Programme (MDP) for the Promotion of Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the two-day training utilized an AI-integrated protocol designed to assess post-traumatic stress and identify self-reported levels of psychological pressure and professional burnout. This initiative comes as part of UNESCO's ongoing efforts in Iraq, following the establishment of a team of 40 psychological specialists from the University of Baghdad to provide professional assistance to women journalists and social media influencers facing psychological stress in challenging and complex work environments. More than 20 women journalists from various Iraqi provi nces participated in the course, which included intensive sessions on mental well-being, stress management, burnout prevention, trauma response, and post-trauma recovery. The sessions were led by trauma psychology experts in collaboration with the Digital Reporting Platform team, using interactive technology and artificial intelligence tools to enable real-time communication between journalists in need of psychological support and mental health professionals. The training also reviewed case studies and discussed the latest report from UNESCO's digital platform, which recorded a 68% increase in reports of psychological crises and digital violence targeting women journalists and influencers from early 2025 until mid-October of the same year. Through the MDP for the Promotion of Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists, UNESCO reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women journalists and enhancing their psychological and professional well-being, ensuring they continue to play their vital role in promoti ng freedom of expression and independent journalism within a safer and more equitable digital environment.
