Beirut: The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) participated in the 21st Arab Media Forum in Beirut, uniting with representatives from various Arab media institutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, CMC Chairman Nofal Abu Ragheef, in his opening remarks, emphasized the critical turning point faced by the Arab media landscape, which necessitates joint cooperation to balance freedom and responsible regulation. He asserted that institutional organization is key to strengthening the media’s role in serving both the state and society within a balanced framework.

Abu Ragheef highlighted that cities like Beirut and Baghdad are not just integral to Arab identity but also represent Arab creativity. He described the media as a compass for the nation, acting as its conscience and a bridge connecting its peoples.

He further elaborated on several initiatives launched by the Commission, focusing on regulatory and developmental responsibilities. These include telecommunications projects in remote ar
eas and digital transformation programs that align with the government’s agenda to build advanced digital infrastructure, aiming to bridge the digital divide and enhance national sovereignty.

Abu Ragheef proposed the adoption of an Arab Charter for Developmental Media and the establishment of an Arab Fund to support conscious media content. He emphasized these steps as an investment in social awareness, which he described as the true capital of nations.

In his concluding remarks, the CMC Chairman reiterated Iraq’s commitment to sharing its expertise in legislative, regulatory, and technical areas to support joint Arab media efforts. This collaboration aims to contribute to a sustainable media future that reflects the aspirations of Arab peoples, protects digital sovereignty, and promotes responsible freedom.
